Sol-gel coatings are versatile
Due to their glass-like refractive index and their modifiability, they can be used for optical and physical functional coatings: An increase in porosity increases the transmission of incident light, thereby increasing light transmittance. A defined roughness directly converts the reflective beam into scattered light and significantly facilitates the recognition of letters or images in direct sunlight. hydrophilization, or hydrophobization of the surfaces, changes the flow behaviour of water and facilitates cleaning of the surface. These are just some examples from the fascinating world of nanotechnology.
